The original Stratford Point Lighthouse, located in Stratford, Connecticut, was built in 1822 and made of wood. In 1881 it was completely replaced by a taller, brick lined cast-iron tower. It was one of the first prefabricated cylindrical lighthouses in the US. The light was fully automated in 1970. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990, while it was being used for Coast Guard housing. While it is not currenlty open to the public, it still essential to the safety of the coast and remains active.
