At high tide the water will sit at the bottom of the wall surrounding shack, and slowly lower to reveal the wet earth and stone below before beginning to rise again.
This quintessential New England icon has been coined "the most often-painted building in America." Originally built in 1840, this fishing shack was so famous that when it was fully destroyed in the blizzard of 1978 an exact replica of it was built the same year. Many great artists have painted Motif Number One over the years and the art community still flocks there today.
