Peck Ledge Lighthouse (CT) Mechanical Animated Tide Clock

While the dial counts away the hours between tide cycles below, the top is mechanically animated to show the changing sea level in real time. At high tide the water will sit at the bottom edge of the lighthouse, and slowly lower to reveal the rocky island below before beginning to rise again.
The Peck Ledge Light is a sparkplug in Norwalk, Connecticut. It was originally built in 1906 and was automated by the coast guard a little over 25 years later. Today it flashes green light every 2.5 seconds. This lighthouse features 3 stories of living space as well as a basement and cistern for rainwater. While this lighthouse is not open to the public, the sight of it can be enjoyed from Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk. While this lighthouse is often called "Peck's Ledge," neither the Coast Guard or NRHP include the 'S' in the name, instead referring to NOAA charts that show it's adjacent to Peck Ledge. Despite coastal erosion, nesting birds, and vandalism, the lighthouse still stands strong in good condition today.
