Grapevine Lake is located roughly twenty miles northwest of Dallas and was created by the US Army Corps of Engineers in 1952 with the damming of Denton Creek. The lake is home to incredible hiking trails, camping, and more, all of which are visible to passengers flying out of the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
This wood lake is made with layers of high-quality birch and modeled using a detailed bathymetric chart. An artist glues together laser-cut pieces of high-quality birch to depict the incredible depths of the lake’s floor. Stain is applied by hand to the layers of water, and then points of interest and other important locations are etched into the topographical map’s surface. A custom wood frame brings the entire piece together.
