At high tide the water will sit near the edge of the property, and slowly lower to reveal the sandy beach below before beginning to rise again.
The Edgartown Harbor Light, one of the five lighthouses located on the island of Martha's Vineyard, marks the entrance to Edgartown Harbor and Katama Bay. The original lighthouse was constructed of wood in 1828, serving as both a light and the keepers house. It was mostly destroyed by a hurricane in 1938 before being fully demolished in 1939. It was replaced by the current cast-iron tower. While the original tower was built on a man-made island 400 meters off the shore, years of sand accumulation around the stone causeway have turned the surrounding area into a beach.
